Anthro-lovin'

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie (remixed)
Jeans: AG Stevie Ankle (here) (remixed)
Earrings: Anthropologie
Watch: Michael Kors
Flats: Anthropologie
While I do have a weird obsession/love for my place of work, I really don't want you to think that Anthropologie is the only place that I shop or that it's the only place to find flattering and unique pieces. When I wear outfits that appear to be head-to-toe Anthro, it's usually because I was going to work that day. And true to form, I did in fact wear this outfit to work—hence the Anthro-ness.

With that being said, I do want to branch out more in the places that I shop. Sometimes, I find it easier to buy things from Anthropologie, simply because I am surrounded by their lovely clothes all day and seeing customers try on certain items can easily convince me that it's something I need. But, I think it's important that I diversify my shopping habits and try out new stores, especially some cute online boutiques like ShopRuche.com as well as more vintage/thrift shops.

Well, truth be told, I really need to work on shopping less in general. But that's beside the point...

Bestie Borrow: Seattle {Part Two}

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

What She's Wearing:
Sweater: c/o ShopMamie (here)
Dress: H&M
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Watch: vintage
Hair Bow: American Apparel
Tights & Socks: Forever 21
Rain Boots: Hunter via Nordstrom (here)
{note: Just stumbled upon this post? read this first.}

This is one of my best friends, Hayley. And she lives in the most gorgeous city ever. Seriously though...don't these photos just make you want to pack your bags and move straight to Seattle? I know I sure do. Seattle > L.A.

Like I said in my previous post, my photos pale in comparison to these amazing shots. Plus, I absolutely love the way she styled this sweater and am still waiting for the day when it rains enough in L.A. to justify me buying cute rain boots like her Hunters.

Seeing these photos also makes me super excited for the fact that I am visiting Hayley in Seattle over spring break, and checking out a city that I could potentially move to after graduation! I've heard so many great things about it, and I absolutely can't wait to have her show me around the city.

Bestie Borrow: L.A. {Part One}

Monday, February 27, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Sweater: c/o ShopMamie (here)
Skirt: Forever 21 (remixed)
Belt: vintage
Necklace: self-made
Heels: Seychelles (similar here)

I was so excited when the ShopMamie girls chose my blog to participate in their "Bestie Borrow" style challenge! They sent me this unique dolman sweater top, and I had a lot of fun coming up with ways to style it. Plus, thanks to my boyfriend, I had the perfect event to wear this outfit to. After taking these photos in a nearby parking lot, Andrew and I ventured into Hollywood to a special press screening (one of the many perks of dating someone who works for the university newspaper!) of Wanderlust—which is hilarious and definitely worth seeing!

Anyway, the way that the "Bestie Borrow" style challenge works is that after I styled this sweater, I had to send it off to my best friend and have her style it as well. So, I decided to send it to my best friend Hayley, who is currently going to college in Seattle. Considering the huge differences in culture and weather between Los Angeles and Seattle, I thought it would be fun to see our different ways of styling the same item. Plus, who doesn't love an opportunity to send snail mail?

Check back soon for Part II of the "Bestie Borrow" style challenge: photos of Hayley's styled outfit in Seattle. (p.s. the skyline in her photos is far more impressive than the attempt I made at capturing the L.A. "skyline" in these pictures...)

Local Shopping: Meinto.com

Remember this scarf from my post a few months back? Well, it's one of my favorites and I bought it from a local clothing boutique in my hometown. Despite my love for Anthropologie and other chain stores, sometimes the best and most unique finds are in local shops.
That's one of the reasons why I was so excited when Meinto.com offered to sponsor my blog. Their goal is to make clothes from unique local boutiques easily available to customers in one central online marketplace. Now, if you love to shop at local boutiques, they are offering a great opportunity for you to make a quick video about it and enter their Facebook video contest to win $1,000 to their online boutique.

Don't miss out...You have until March 12th to submit a video!

Weekend Escape: The Getty Villa

Sunday, February 26, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Flannel: Forever 21 (remixed)
Dress: Nordstrom BP (remixed)
Handbag: Fossil
Flats: Anthropologie
My inspiration for this outfit came from Kim of Oh! Sweet Joy!. Her creative layering of a lace Anthropologie dress and flannel in this post, totally inspired me to think outside the box and try something new. And I must say, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Plus, Andrew told me I looked very "artsy".
The Getty Villa was the final stop on our anniversary weekend trip. Neither of us had been before and I absolutely loved it. There were great exhibits and beautiful gardens. Overall, it was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend.

Weekend Escape: Part III

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Dotline Boatneck" (remixed 1 & 2)
Cardigan: Anthropologie (remixed 1 & 2)
Jeans: Citizen of Humanity via Buffalo Exchange
Heels: Seychelles via Anthropologie (similar here)
After taking a hike up the hill to get a great view of the canyon, I had to change my clothes before we went into town for dinner because it got very chilly very quickly. So here's a few quick pictures of my remixed outfit! (I was too lazy to change my shirt...)

Happy Friday...or TGIF!

Weekend Escape: Part II

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Dotline Boatneck" (remixed)
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981
Skirt: Free People (here) (remixed 1 & 2)
Belt: Target
Earrings: Anthropologie
Boots: Nordstrom BP
We walked up the road from our B&B for a great view of the whole canyon. It was super cold and windy, but we managed to capture a few minutes of golden light when the clouds cleared past the hills. There's something about the quality of golden light that can't be replicated on photoshop...and I love it.

The view was truly beautiful. It was so quiet and serene up on the trail that it's hard to believe we were only twenty minutes outside of the city...
Take me back, Topanga!

Weekend Escape: Part I

Sunday, February 19, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Shawl-Collar Boatneck" (here)
Skirt: Corey Lynn Calter via Anthropologie
Necklace: gifted
Watch: Michael Kors
Belt: Target
Flats: Anthropologie
I wore this outfit on the first day of our weekend away in Malibu—actually, more specifically, Topanga Canyon. We stayed in a cute little bed and breakfast (with an incredible view!) and explored the town and surrounding areas for three days. It was great to get away from the city and just have a few days to relax with one another. I really couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate our anniversary.
Thank goodness it's still a three-day weekend, because I am definitely not ready to get back to reality (even though being back in LA is reality enough). Anyway, these next few days I will be updating with all the photos from our trip! Happy Sunday :)

Couch Potato

Thursday, February 16, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Sweater: Anthropologie "Swoop and Glide Pullover" (remix)
Jeans: BDG via Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Dogeared
Watch: Michael Kors
Handbag: Fossil
Flats: Seychelles via Anthropologie (here)
Now that my sickness, midterms, and papers are finally over, I have no motivation to do anything! These past few days, I have felt like a complete and total couch potato. Well...I guess in my case it would be bed potato since I spend most of my time on my computer in bed. Also, does anyone even use the term "couch potato" anymore...or am I just off on my own living in another decade and using dated phrases?

Really though, yesterday I promised myself I would catch up on all the readings I had missed while studying for midterms, but instead, I somehow caught up on new episodes of The Bachelor, Jane By DesignGlee, Parks and Recreation, and New Girl. Even though writing all that out makes me sound like a TV fiend, on a positive note, all the Valentine's Day-themed episodes were great!
P.S. This weekend Andrew and I are headed up to Malibu to celebrate our three year anniversary and I can't wait!

I suppose I can keep this whole "couch potato" act up for a few more days...

Valentine

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Urban Outfitters (remixed)
Blazer: Urban Outfitters (remixed 12, and 3)
Scarf: borrowed
Watch: Michael Kors
Tights: HUE
Ankle Boots: Urban Outfitters
I wore this on our Valentine's Day date last night. We went to a delicious Pan Asian restaurant and then saw The Vow (in which I, of course, cried from beginning to end). It was a wonderful night and I could not have asked for a better person to spend it with.

I also could not have asked for my scarf to match my dress any more perfectly. Really though...the polka dots are the exact same color. It was a match made in tacky-and-festive-Valentine's-Day-heaven.
Happy Valentine's Day and three years, love! You're the best.
