A New York Minute

Friday, June 29, 2012

I'm back! Well actually...I got back from NYC on Wednesday, but I was thrown right back into the swing of things with a 9 hour shift of work yesterday, and my internship today so I haven't really had a second to breathe, reflect, or blog until now.

First off, Google AdCamp was amazing and I am so thankful that I got to meet many wonderful and ambitious people from all around the country. I was definitely challenged to step out of my comfort zone more in AdCamp's four short days than I have been all year, and I am very grateful for the experience.

NYC was also incredible and I wish I could have stayed a little bit longer. However, I still think I managed to get a good feel for NYC (and take lots of Instagram snaps!) in the small time I had to adventure around the city :)

Happy Friday!

Simply Feminine

Monday, June 25, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Shirt—Forever 21, Chambray—Forever 21 (remixed), Skirt—Love 21 (shop similar),
Belt—thrifted, Necklace—self-made with vintage charms, Satchel—Anthropologie, Heels—Seychelles}
I have been so busy with work and my internship, that I have hardly had a second to breathe. I didn't expect it, but I actually think I am busier now than I was during the school year. However, despite all the craziness, we somehow managed to fit in a little date night last week. Here are some reasons why I love date night:

1. a walk by the lake
2. mini-blog photo shoot (obviously Andrew's favorite part...)
3. pigging out on Mexican food and frozen yogurt
Oh yeah, and I suppose...
 5. time spent with my favorite person :)

Happy Monday!

{What I'm Wearing: Tank—Anthropologie "Notched Boy Tank" (shop), Scarf—Target,
Jeans—Holding Horses, Earrings—Nordstrom (shop similar), Satchel—Anthropologie, Boots—Target (shop)}
Just a little pop of blue to complete a simple, casual look.

I'm off to New York City this weekend for Google AdCamp and I couldn't be more excited! Wish me luck...and prepare yourselves for an Instagram and Twitter overload.

P.S. Special shout out to one of my amazing readers who I ran into at work the other day! Thank you so much for all your kind words :)

Happy Friday!

First Day

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Dress—Target (shop), Denim Jacket—Heritage 1981,
Satchel—Anthropologie, Earrings—Anthropologie, Boots—Target (shop)}
I wore this outfit on the first day of my internship at Ruche! I decided to go for a feminine and casual look with my new dress and boots from Target. {side note: do not go into Target alone when you are bored. It is a very very bad idea and you will most likely walk out with 5 new things you don't need}

Anyway, this dress is proof that I finally gave into the "hi-low" hem trend. I'm definitely not crazy about the super dramatic hi-low hems, so I like how the angle on the hem of this dress is pretty subtle. I also really liked the color and the price tag (again...thank youuu Target).

How about you? Are there any summer trends that you have given into recently?

Larchmont Lace

Thursday, June 14, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: ChambrayAnthropologie "Washed Denim Buttondown" (shop),
SkirtAnthropologie "Sunblaze Lace Skirt" (shop), NecklaceForever 21,
Handbag—Fossil (similar), Wedges—Cathy Jean Shoes}
After my early morning inventory shift at work, Andrew and I ventured into the adorable neighborhood of Larchmont and had lunch at Bricks & Scones to celebrate the beginning of summer. Since the past few weeks have been dedicated to sweatpants and studying, I have been waiting to wear this outfit for the longest time! So, I'm happy that our fun little outing at the start of summer vacation made for the perfect occasion to wear it out. The neon lace skirt is pretty fancy by itself, but I think that the chambray made it a lot more casual and summer-appropriate. And next time, I'm ditching the wedges for flip-flops.
Summer 2012...it's so nice to meet you.

Ends & Beginnings

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Blouse—H&M (remixed), SkirtMadewell (remixed),
BeltAnthropologie, Wedges—Cathy Jean Shoes}
The lighting was weird when I took these pictures, so I wasn't able to get too many usable snaps. However, I liked my outfit, so I figured I would share it anyways. I wore this on the last day of my spring internship at a nearby fashion PR firm. The day was bittersweet and I am so thankful for the experience and the great people I was able to work with. Interning there definitely helped me realize my love for social media & marketing (especially in fashion) and I am so happy I had the opportunity to learn more about the industry through valuable, hands-on experience.

I am also excited to announce that while I am back home for the summer, I will be interning at Ruche in their Social Media & Marketing department. Ruche is one of my favorite online boutiques, so needless to say, I am really looking forward to it!

Never heard of Ruche? Then check out these links...

Floral Brights

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: TankForever 21, JeansAnthropologie "Pilcro Stet Slit Crop" (shop, remixed),
ScarfForever 21 (remixed), Bag—Fossil (similar), Sandals–Roxy}
This work outfit started out simple, with just my orange pants and white tank. Then, I saw my trusty floral scarf hanging in my closet and realized the orange roses matched my orange pants... and bam—I suddenly had a very bright and floral outfit. Considering my previous success with wearing a rectangular scarf as an infinity scarf, I decided to test my luck and style my floral scarf the same way. I'm actually really happy with how it looked, and I think I like it better than the classic way I wore it last time

Overall, the bright colors in this outfit make me feel very ready for summer. One more final and a 5am shift at work stand between me and freeeeedom!

Study Wear

Monday, June 11, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: TopAnthropologie (remixed), HoodieAnthropologie,
JeansMadewell "Rail Straight Jeans" (shop), Shoes—Sperry Top-Sider (shop)}
I have been living in various versions of this outfit this past week. Why no sweatpants you ask? Well...two reasons. 1) This is a style blog and you probably don't want to see me blogging about the super grungy sweatpants I wore for five days straight and 2) because I have temporarily run out of work-out clothes and haven't done laundry in three weeks soooo...yeah.

However, I assure you, the second I get my hands on some (semi) clean sweatpants...they are the first thing I plan to wear in public.

Happy finals week to me!

Oldies

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: TopNordstrom Brass Plum, Denim JacketHeritage 1981,
SkirtAnthropologie "Million Pleats Midi" (remixed), FlatsAnthropologie}
I've been feeling a little uninspired lately and have been hoarding some of my new clothes to wear for a special date/occasion. Don't ask me why...it's just one of those weird things I do. Unfortunately, it's almost finals, which means I will not be doing anything fun for at least a week. So, I figured it would be the perfect time to start wearing some of my older pieces—like this top and skirt—that haven't gotten any love for a few months. This outfit is nothing too special, just one of my classic skirt-blouse-denim jacket combos that I wore for a pretty uneventful day of class and studying.

Jeweled

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: SweaterAnthropologie (borrowed), Scarf—Forever 21 (remixed, shop),
Jeans—Holding Horses, EarringsAnthropologie, WatchMichael KorsFlatsAnthropologie}
This sweater is actually my friend Hayley's, but I borrowed it from her over spring break since she goes to school in Seattle and it's not exactly a good cold weather piece. (As you can see...it has a million little holes in it and even I, living in Southern California, was freezing when it got windy later in the day.)

Because the color of the sweater is so bold, I had planned to keep my outfit fairly simple and pair neutral accessories with it. First, I decided to mix it up and tie my neutral rectangular scarf like an infinity scarf to match the swoop of my sweater's neckline. I then failed on the whole "neutral accessories plan" and threw on some bright jeweled earrings. I just couldn't resist adding a few more jewel tones into my outfit, despite promising myself to keep it simple.

Disco Pleats

Monday, June 4, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Blouse—thrifted (remixed), Denim JacketHeritage 1981, SkirtRuche (remixed),
BeltNordstrom, Earrings—Anthropologie, Boat Shoes—Sperry Top-Sider (shop)}
This outfit had a very 1970's feel to me. Perhaps it was my dangly earrings, or maybe the polyester button-up under my denim jacket, but I pretty much felt ready to put on my skates and head to the roller disco all day. I had originally tucked my polka dot blouse into my skirt, but after wearing it for an hour or so I realized it was a lot more comfortable to have it out and belted. I'm so used to tucking everything in, that I have never really thought twice about trying something new. But, I really like the way my outfit turned out, so I definitely want to start mixing it up more.

Anyway, it's my last week of classes and I'm in full study-mode. Ask me anything about the sociology of gender and I could talk for days...

Happy Monday!
