Holiday Delay

Monday, February 18, 2013

This outfit would have been perfect around Christmastime. But, even though it's about two months late, I still decided to wear it on a chilly February day last week. It was one of those mornings where my brain was only capable of "simple" color matching...I noticed the red in my plaid shirt and could only think to pair it with my bright red pants. I was too tired to care that I looked like Christmas, so that's how this wonderfully festive (belated) holiday look came to be :)

They're Back

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

My favorite orange pants are back in action. I decided against bringing them to Ireland (which was probably for the best considering I hardly ever wore the red jeans I brought), so we were separated for four long months. When I got home from my trip, they felt brand new and I couldn't wait to wear them! idea: maybe if I do that with all my clothes I will never feel the need to go shopping again...

Even though these orange pants are a bit more suitable for spring, I think they work perfectly with the warm California winter we have been having. I decided to keep my outfit simple by pairing them with my trusty chambray and layering a neutral cardigan over. It's simple, go-to outfits like this that I tend to repeat over and over again.

Trendy

{Lace Top—Anthropologie "Devin Henley" (shop), Cargo Pants—Nordstrom BP (similar),
Necklace—Dogeared (shop), Watch—DKNY (similar), Flats—Anthropologie}
Whenever I wear these pants, I like to pair them with a more feminine top and accessories to contrast the slightly masculine cargo seaming. As strange of a combination as this is, I'd like to think that the two opposing elements complement each other rather than clash. Plus, I'm always happy with an outfit when I get to wear something that I thought had gone out of style (*cough cargo pants cough*) only to find that they are actually coming back with a vengeance! I may have bought these pants in the juniors' section of Nordstrom like three years ago but, if you ask me, they look identical to this pair from Anthro...

And now for the burning question: at what point will spandex gaucho pants and velour tracksuits come back in style? Because once they make a comeback, I'll pretty much have the trendiest wardrobe ever...

Off the Shoulder

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Top—Urban Outfitters (remixed), Jeans—It! Jeans (remixed),
Earrings—Anthropologie (shop), Satchel—Anthropologie (similar), Sandals—Target (shop)}
I'm usually not one for showing much skin when I dress (well...ignore this post) but when I do, I love to wear off the shoulder tops—there is something about them that is so effortlessly chic. To show off the dramatic neckline of this breezy top, I decided to throw my hair up in a top knot and add some dangly earrings. I absolutely love its unique print, and I think I like it a lot better with white jeans rather than the blue denim I wore with it last time.

Anyway, I wore this casual summer outfit to brunch with Andrew at Eat Chow, before we headed out for a day of shopping. Believe it or not, this shopping day was for Andrew, not me. So naturally, Andrew had been looking forward to our outing for weeks!!! (kidding...) However, I certainly had some fun giving styling advice and helping him choose some nice warm clothes for Ireland. Who would have thought shopping for someone else could be so fun!? Perhaps I'll take up personal shopping as one of my many side jobs when I graduate...

Comfort Zone

Friday, August 10, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Blouse—Anthropologie "Tulip Lace Shell" (shop), Jeans—AG "Stevie Ankle (similar // remixed), Earrings—Anthropologie (shop), Watch—DKNY (similar), Wedges—Cathy Jean}
The summer heat must be getting to me, because the other day I went rogue and wore this sheer lace blouse to my internship...with no camisole, no cardigan, no nothing! At my office, the dress code is fairly lenient and people pretty much wear whatever they want—ranging from dressed up pencil skirts to cut-off denim shorts and wedges. But, for me, wearing this sheer lace blouse with no lining was very out of character.

However, I must admit, this airy top was definitely a great way to beat the 90 degree heat and I think it's good for me to step out of my style comfort zone and try new things. Plus, I thought my favorite (and only...) purple pants would be the perfect piece to offset the sheerness of my top. And who doesn't love wearing purple pants? Actually probably a lot of people...but I'm just going to answer my own question and say NO ONE!!

Happy Friday!

Like New

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Top—Anthropologie, Cardigan—Nordstrom BP (shop),
Jeans—It! Jeans (similar), Bag—vintage, Sandals—Target (shop)}
This top is one of those pieces that I absolutely love, but it somehow found its way to the bottom of my dresser...and stayed there...for two years. The last documented photo I have of me wearing this top was on Move-In day my freshman year of college. Yep...I've got all the awkwardly posed pictures in front of my car to prove it.

However, if you follow me on Instagram you know that I recently posted this picture in which I organized and folded pretty much everything that has been hiding in my drawers for the past two years. And that, my friends, is when I re-discovered this gem (along with other wonderfully forgotten pieces).

So starting now, you should be seeing a lot of older pieces in my outfits as I (attempt) to shop my own closet and save for Ireland! I'm not saying it's going to be easy...but I'm really really trying.

Red, White, and Blue

Thursday, July 5, 2012

{Tank—Anthropologie (shop similar), Chambray—Anthropologie "Washed Denim Buttondown"
(shop // remixed), Jeans—AG Stevie Ankle (remixed), Sandals—Target (shop similar)}
I stayed true to my word and went all out in red, white, and blue for the Fourth of July yesterday. And I think I managed to walk the fine line between festive and tacky, which, in my book, is a great accomplishment. Anyone else love dressing up for holidays as much as I do?

After I got off work my Fourth was filled with food, fireworks, and lots of love. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday as well!
This holiday also happened to be our fourth 4th of July together. Lame...but I thought it was kind of cool :)

Floral Brights

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: TankForever 21, JeansAnthropologie "Pilcro Stet Slit Crop" (shop, remixed),
ScarfForever 21 (remixed), Bag—Fossil (similar), Sandals–Roxy}
This work outfit started out simple, with just my orange pants and white tank. Then, I saw my trusty floral scarf hanging in my closet and realized the orange roses matched my orange pants... and bam—I suddenly had a very bright and floral outfit. Considering my previous success with wearing a rectangular scarf as an infinity scarf, I decided to test my luck and style my floral scarf the same way. I'm actually really happy with how it looked, and I think I like it better than the classic way I wore it last time

Overall, the bright colors in this outfit make me feel very ready for summer. One more final and a 5am shift at work stand between me and freeeeedom!

A New Favorite

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Madewell
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981
Jeans: Anthropologie "Pilcro Stet Slit Crop" (shop)
Head Scarf: vintage
Earrings: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Belt: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Flats: Old Navy
I got these pants from work about a week ago, and they are quickly becoming new favorite in my closet. They are bright, comfy, and can instantly make any outfit more exciting! I decided to pair them with a plain tee and denim jacket to keep my look clean and simple. However, I rediscovered this fun head scarf in one of my drawers while I was back home this weekend, and couldn't resist throwing it into my outfit to add more color and give it a little bohemian-vibe.

Although I sometimes complain about not being able to bring all my clothes with me to school, it's actually a blessing in disguise. This is because, when I finally do come back home, all the clothes I had to leave behind seem brand new again—something that is very good for someone like me who shops for new clothes too much...

And while my new favorite orange pants may actually be new...this scarf feels like a new purchase to me!

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Hour

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Anthropologie (remixed 1 & 2)
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981
Jeans: Eairth Classics (remixed 1 & 2)
Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Coffee: Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino
I wore this outfit to my university's huge (and amazing) spring talent show last weekend. But first, being the Starbucks addict that I am, I of course had to stop by Starbucks for the start of their Frappuccino Happy Hour. Half-priced frappuccinos? What could be better than that...

Dressing Up

Friday, April 20, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: H&M (remixed)
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP
Jeans: AG "Stevie Ankle" (remixed)
Watch: Michael Kors
Belt: thrifted
Heels: Marc Fisher via Macy's
Amidst all the craziness of school, this is the first outfit from my PR internship that I have actually been able to document. And it also happens to be fairly casual in comparison to the pencil skirts and heels I have usually been wearing. However, I wore it because it was the perfect outfit to transition from work to class.

But once I was back on campus, I swapped my heels (that I love, but never have the opportunity to wear) for my trusty leopard flats. It's too bad that people would look at me funny if I wore heels on campus, because I really want to make more of an effort to wear them out. They really are the most tried and true way to dress up any outfit.

Anyway, that's my mini rant...TGIF and have a great weekend!
