Prepare yourselves...these are probably the last sunset photos I'll have up for a while. The ending of DST is really throwing off my photo-taking ritual after work. But, I'm happy I was at least able to snap some of these sunset photos before the time change. Anyway, I haven't been wearing midi skirts as much as I used to, but I'm happy with how this combo turned out. Whenever I'm unsure of how to style something, it's nice to revisit old outfits to get inspired. Also, I caved and bought this watch online last week. I'd been looking for a classic leather strap watch for a while, so I finally decided to invest in one that vaguely matches my brown ankle boots. I'm just considering it a "late" birthday present to myself. (Please note: This justification works about six months out of the year. Purchases made during the other six months can be considered "early" birthday presents.)

P.S. Happy Veteran's Day! Can every weekend please be three days?

Skylines

Monday, June 17, 2013

Get the look:
hey, who's that scruffy, I mean devilishly handsome redhead?
I took a trip back home this weekend to relax after the craziness of finals and starting my new job. Luckily, Andrew and I were able to make time for a date night at one of our favorite spots and I decided to wear my new city skylines maxi skirt. I blogged about this skirt over on Beso a month or so ago, and convinced myself to get it because I had never seen a maxi skirt like it before! Plus, I have a thing for city/map prints, so this was the perfect addition to my growing collection of eclectic prints.

I was very limited on clothing options this weekend (finals week = waiting to do allll my laundry at home), but thankfully I had a clean white tank to pair with my skirt for a monochrome look. Since it was a little chilly by the water, I brought along my new chambray that I picked up this weekend at GUESS. Speaking of GUESS, you'll probably be hearing me talking about them from time to time since I'm interning at their corporate office this summer in the Social Media department. I seriously could not be more excited, and can't wait to get some valuable hands-on experience. If you're interested in seeing what I'll be up to, you can follow GUESS here:

Come Sail Away

nautical sailboat tee with yellow midi skirt

I wore this nautical outfit to a shift at work (although it could have just as easily worked for a little trip on my yacht, ha) and my co-workers appropriately called my t-shirt "vintage Anthro" since it's so old! It's crazy that I've been with the company so long that I can say things like that. It has been almost two years people! Where has the time gone!?

Anyway, this may be my only post for the week. This quarter is kicking my butt and between Anthro and my internship I'm easily working 30+ hours a week. Oh, and then there's school. So thaaaaat's what I've been up to lately. I'm pretty much on the verge of a nervous breakdown like 24/7 (just ask Andrew and my wonderful roommates) and counting down the days until summer. Even though I'll still be busy, it's going to be so nice to take a break from school.

Okay, off to study statistics (aka my favorite subject in the WORLD). Wish me luck!

Neighborhood Watch

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Get the look:
This past weekend Andrew and I ventured into Silverlake so that I could do some research for one of my classes. And by research, I mean having brunch at Millie's and walking around the neighborhood. I know I've said this before...but sometimes being a Sociology major is just the best (minus all the paper writing and reading that comes after the research. that...is not quite as fun). I love exploring new parts of LA, and Andrew was a pretty big fan of Silverlake after we visited. While I'm not sure what my post-grad plans are, I think it's safe to say that Silverlake had been added to "the list" of potential future homes :)

For my outfit, I decided to break out this striped midi dress and kept things simple with my trusty denim jacket. Because midi dresses have a tendency to make me look shorter than normal, I wore some wedges. Funny story about these wedges: I bought them four years ago when I worked my first job at a shoe store in high school. They were in style at the time, but slowly slid out of style. Well guess what, this season I've been noticing a lot more platforms and these shoes fit right in! So, here's to hoarding shoes long enough for them to make their way back in style! And that, my friends, is how I save money.*

*Please note: never, ever take financial advice from me.

Hollywood Forever

Thursday, August 16, 2012

{Blouse—Anthropologie "Tulip Lace Shell" (remixed), Maxi Skirt: Kaitlyn Clothing (remixed), Straw Fedora—university store (remixed), Earrings—Nordstrom, Belt—Nordstrom, Satchel—Anthropologie}
Before you stop following my blog because you realize my photos are taken in a cemetery...READ ON! Last Sunday, Andrew and I were fortunate enough to go to the Sigur Rós concert at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Sigur Rós is one of Andrew's all-time favorite bands, so I bought tickets for us to go for his birthday a few months back. The venue was really cool, and it was so weird to see the gravestones of so many classic Hollywood stars. Mr. Alfred Hitchcock is behind me in all my photos...

P.S. Other than the amazing music and the fun picnic we set up before the show, the highlight of my night was making eye contact with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on my way to the port-a-potties. He saw me staring at him and smiled back. It. Was. Awesome.
The most important part of this photo is that it was taken by the actor who plays Kurt's dad on Glee.

And that is my claim to fame...The End!

Maxi Skirt—Nordstrom BP (similar), Earrings—Anthropologie (shop)}
Even though I'm an Anthropologie/Ruche girl at heart...a part of me wishes my style was a bit more laid-back a la Free People. So every once in a while, I swap my structured cardigan and high-waisted skirt for an off the shoulder blouse and maxi skirt, and I feel all free and bohemian for those 12 hours. And then, like clockwork, I wake up the next morning and immediately reach for my favorite cardigan, falling back into my classic and familiar style.

So, here's to those exceptions—those days where you wake up and just feel like playing dress-up :)

Our Spot

{Maxi DressRuche (shop), Jacket—Anthropologie "Openwork Army Jacket" (shop // remixed),
Scarf—H&M (shop similar), Belt—H&M, Bracelet—vintage, Handbag—vintage, Sandals—Target (shop similar)}
I got this dress from Ruche about a month or so ago, and had been waiting for the perfect occasion to wear it out (as I've mentioned before...I tend to do that a lot). Finally, last weekend, Andrew and I both had some time off and we were able to go to our favorite little Italian restaurant for the first time this summer. So, being the fashion nerd that I am, I got really excited that I finally had something to get dressed up for! As always, we had fun walking around and looking at all the cute family-owned shops before dinner. And together, we demolished two full bread baskets, a pizza, and a big pasta dish...it was a dream come true.
I think it's funny we have been going to the same restaurant in that part of town (we refuse to try anything else) since the very beginning of our relationship. What can I say....we are creatures of habit and we love our spot.

 And if you were wondering, that's Andrew...looking all classy and nautical and stuff.

Flow

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Blouse—Anthropologie (remixed), Skirt—thrifted (remixed),
Belt—thrifted, Earrings—Anthropologie, Heels—Target}
My loose blouse and billowy skirt made this outfit feel very flowy. Going through my old posts, I just realized that this outfit is almost identical to one I wore last summer, but with jeans instead of a skirt. Funny how changing one piece can really alter the whole feel of an ensemble. Remixing for the win!
