Second Closet

Monday, April 30, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Nordstrom BP (remixed 12)
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981
Necklace: Etsy
Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Sandals: Forever 21
Coffee: Urth Caffé
Before hitting the books to study for midterms on Saturday, we headed over to Urth Caffé to try their famous organic coffee. I got a yummy honey vanilla latté and Andrew decided on their Spanish cream latté which was equally as delicious. I had never thought to mix honey and coffee, but after that latté, I have now discovered the perfect remedy for any poorly made espresso drink (yes, overpriced campus coffee shop—I'm talking to you).

I wore this outfit partly because a simple summer dress and denim jacket seemed perfect for the sunny day, and partly because I'm running out of clothes and happened to find this combo in the backseat of my car. Yes, unfortunately you heard me correctly—between work, school, and my internship my car is slowly becoming my second closet. Right now, I have at least three pairs of heels, two pairs of jeans, a scarf, sweatshirt, dress, and blazer thrown in my backseat...
Somebody, please tell me I'm not the only one out there guilty of creating a second closet...

The Office

Monday, October 24, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: c/o Shop Kempt. "Birdie Asymmetrical Dress" (here)
Denim Jacket: Life in Progress via Forever 21
Belt: Target
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum brand
Handbag: Fossil
I wore this outfit to see a free Puss in Boots pre-screening this weekend. Surprisingly, it was a pretty cute movie, but I'm not sure if I'm just saying that because it was free. I also didn't get a picture with my 3D glasses...but I assure you they completed the outfit.

As for everything else, I'm at a loss for what to write because I'm too busy thinking about the midterms I should be studying for instead of blogging. I've been hiding in my closet/cave/makeshift office all week pretending to study, but instead I just keep getting distracted by all the clothes and accessories around me.

This may not make sense to most of you, but my sorority house is set up so that there are only large common study areas rather than personal desks. So, in my boredom/desperation I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own desk in my favorite place of all...

One Month

Monday, September 12, 2011

Its my one month blog-iversary (!)...so it seems fitting to post my new closet that I will have in my sorority house for the next school year.

Its a different setup from my old closet but I definitely think I'm going to like having everything more consolidated.

So...here's to a new year, a new closet, and new inspiration.

Closet Inventory

Saturday, August 13, 2011

What I'm working with:
my closet and drawer area back home...(coming soon: closet area in my sorority house)

Like many people, my closet and drawers are filled with plenty of clothes that never seem to see the light of day. A lot of the time, my closet feels overwhelming and basically like it is on caffeine (hence the blog name?). However, I am doing my best to make the most out of everything I own—and avoid buying new things I don't need—by organizing my closet in a particularly unusual way.

Due to my limited amount of actual closet space, I have been forced to fold a lot of my clothes. As most of you probably know...once an item of clothing goes into the drawer, it seems to never come out. I've had shirts that found their way to the bottom of my drawer that I literally forgot I owned for over a year.

After a while, I became tired of wearing the same things over and over again simply because I was too lazy to fish through my drawers and style some of my older pieces.

So....

I decided to create an online closet inventory!

Because my Macbook and I are literally attached at the hip (or wrist?) I decided making picture files of everything I own would help me easily flip through my clothing items on my computer and re-discover some gems that had been hiding in the depths of my tacky plastic storage units.

1. First, I took pictures of all the clothes I own (which only took up about 2 hours) and then uploaded them onto my iPhoto (the mac equivalent to any photo program).

2. Next, I divided up the pictures into basic categories: nice tops, casual tanks, short-sleeves, long-sleeves, skirts, pants, etc. However, I created these albums using MobileMe which is a program that allows your photos, contacts, and calendars to by synced between your Macbook and iPhone.

my iPhoto: as you can see, the left toolbar shows the different clothing albums available

3. Finally, once I had created all the different categories, I uploaded these albums onto my iPhone's MobileMe Gallery so that I could access these photos on-the-go. This is especially helpful when shopping because it allows you to have your entire closet on-hand so you can easily determine whether or not a clothing item will easily fit into your wardrobe and match a good number of other pieces.

this screenshot shows the MobileMe Gallery page on my iPhone. I frequently flip through this application while shopping to weigh the pros and cons of a possible clothing purchase
