College Professional

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Forever 21
Blazer: Urban Outfitters
Pencil Skirt: Anthropologie "Tile-Quilted Mini" (shop)
Necklace: vintage
Watch: Michael Kors
Handbag: Anthropologie "Lane Lines Bag"
Heels: Nine West
I wore this outfit to an interview the other day. Being a college student, I don't have too many opportunities to dress up like this. So, when the occasional opportunity arises, I love to dress professionally and pull out my rarely worn, but very loved black pumps and blazer. I also love this pencil skirt because it is polished, yet unique and quirky at the same time.
Looking at myself in this outfit gives me a little glimpse into my future. While I love college, I also can't wait to start my future career and explore the work world...

Sunday Classic

Sunday, January 29, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Anthropologie "Aubergine Sky Dress" (shop)
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981 via Forever 21
Watch: Michael Kors
Boots: Anthropologie "Buckled Paddock Boots"
I wore this outfit to work this past week. This dress was a purchase I treated myself to at the end of winter break after working 30-hour weeks for a month straight. When I first tried it on a month or so ago, I wasn't sure if it would work out because of the length. However, I have definitely become more adventurous in wearing mid-length dresses and skirts even though I am petite, so I decided to get it anyway. To compensate for my lack of height I paired the longer dress with my only pair of heeled boots which have been perfect for working long hours on my feet.
This is definitely one of my classic work outfits. Nothing too special...just a nice dress, denim jacket, and boots. Although I love to be adventurous, sometimes it's nice to go back to the basics.

Static

Saturday, January 28, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: H&M
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP (remixed)
Skirt: Anthropologie "Gifted Skirt" (remixed)
Watch: Michael Kors
Boots: Nordstrom BP
My original outfit included sweater tights. However, the weather decided to be dry and windy so needless to say, I went about 5 minutes with the tights until I realized that it just wasn't working out. The whole time I felt like Mandy Moore in the scene from Because I Said So when the balloon is stuck to her dress...(if you have seen the movie you will know exactly what I'm talking about).
Thank you static electricity and Southern California winter.
Hope you are having a great Saturday!

Weekend Uniform

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Anthropologie
Cardigan: Anthropologie "Anza Cardi"
Leggings: Forever 21
Scarf: Nordstrom BP
Headband: gifted, handmade
Boots: UGG Australia
I wore this comfy outfit on Sunday. I also decided to pull out one of my favorite headbands that was given to my senior year of high school. It's very Anthro-like and perfect for when I just feel like pulling my hair back and not put much time into styling it.

After wearing this outfit, I think I have finally discovered the perfect weekend uniform: a loose top, soft cardigan and scarf, stretchy leggings, and warm boots. It works for both lounging around the house as well as running errands out in public. If only it was still Sunday afternoon...

Happy Tuesday!

Monday Blues

Monday, January 23, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Gap
Denim Jacket: Life in Progress via Forever 21 (similar)
Jeans: AG Stevie Ankle (different color | remixed)
Scarf: Vintage
Watch: Michael Kors
Flats: Anthropologie
I didn't realize until I was writing this post that the three main colors in my outfit are red, white (well...cream), and blue. Luckily, I didn't get weird looks when I wore this on campus on Friday. This means one of two things: no one was on campus on Friday or this outfit is normal. I'm hoping it's the latter, because from my perspective, my big brown scarf and neutral flats tone down the patriotism of my outfit, preventing me from looking like I just walked out of a Fourth of July barbecue.
In other news, it's unfortunately the end of a very relaxing and unproductive weekend. On Saturday, I woke up at 2pm, which was very uncharacteristic of me, even though I do not consider myself a morning person. I was cranky the whole rest of the day and felt like I had wasted a good five hours where I (ideally) could have been studying or apartment hunting.

So...here's to a new and hopefully more productive week. Happy Monday!

Layers

Friday, January 20, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Anthropologie "Brushed Terra Dress" (here)
Sweater: Urban Outfitters (remixed here)
Denim Jacket: Life in Progress via Forever 21
Scarf: Forever 21
Watch: Michael Kors
Tights: HUE
Boots: Anthropologie "Buckled Paddock Boots"
Seeing as I have class from 9am-6pm every Thursday, I have quickly learned the art of layering. This may look like three outfits...but I promise it's just one. It's chilly in the morning, temperate during the day, and then freezing at night, so I have to dress for all occasions.

Luckily, I chose comfortable and versatile pieces for my long day on campus. This is the second time I have worn this dress (and first time I have blogged about it) and it's already becoming one of my favorites. It's soft, comfy, and warm...all good qualities to have in my {clothing} book. With this dress as my base, all I had to do was throw on a loose cotton sweater, weathered denim jacket, and long scarf to create a functional layered outfit, good for any time of the day!
Thank goodness its Friday! And I really, truly mean it. Happy weekend everyone!

Professional Plaid

Thursday, January 19, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Flannel: Forever 21
Blazer: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity via Buffalo Exchange
Earrings: Nordstrom BP
Handbag: Anthropologie
Boots: Nordstrom BP
Lately, I have been inspired by a few bloggers who have styled casual plaid with a blazer (exhibit A). So, I thought I would give it a shot. And guess what? I like it. However, the flannel I'm wearing right now is about three years old and already falling apart (and one of only two in my closet). I have been needing an excuse to go shopping...and maybe this is just the excuse I have been looking for!

P.S. I'm off to write a paper due tomorrow. This whole having class on Friday thing is really not working well for me this quarter...what a spoiled and fortunate college student I have been up until this point.

California Winter

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Winsome Pullover" (on sale here)
Dress (worn as skirt): Nordstrom BP
Peacoat: Nordstrom BP
Scarf: Forever 21
Belt: Target
Tights: HUE (similar here)
Boots: Cathy Jean Shoes
Today was truly a perfect Southern California winter's day—crisp, cold, and sunny. It was a day that I could finally wear tights, boots, and a coat and actually be appropriately dressed.

Another good thing about today? the fact that I'm on my third fourth cup of coffee as I write this.

The best thing about today? the fact that I restyled one of my favorite old dresses (that I haven't worn since my junior year of high school!) in a new and different way. My whole outfit came together in about 5 minutes after my orignal plan involving a turtleneck looked slightly less flattering than I had imagined.
Happy Tuesday!

Lace & Dots

Thursday, January 12, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Cardigan: Anthropologie "Filigree Cardi"(remixed here)
Jeans: Joe's Jeans
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Necklace: gifted
Handbag: Anthropologie "Spotted Satchel" (remixed here)
Boots: Anthropologie "Buckled Paddock Boots"
Since I had a long day, I decided to go for a simple outfit consisting of my favorite pieces...specifically this lace cardigan and polka dot bag. These pieces got me through hours of class, running errands, and coffee house studying. I ventured away from my usual Starbucks, and opted to study at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf instead, since it's a little closer to where I live. It was a nice change, but the 2 hour Wi-fi limit and no discount for soy milk reminded me of why I love Starbucks so much.

The Daily Grind

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Topshop
Skirt: Free People (remixed here) (buy here)
Belt: Target
Tights: Anthropologie
Boots: Nordstrom BP
Winter break is over and I'm back at school—back to the daily grind...kind of. A lot of my classes are still up in the air and I don't go back to work until next week, so I have yet to feel completely settled. Without much to do these past few days, I have honestly just been roaming around aimlessly on campus and drinking overpriced campus coffee out of pure boredom.

I hate to say it, but if I have to be back at school...I might as well be busy! In a few weeks, when I am actually stressed and busy, remind me I said this.
