They're Back

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

My favorite orange pants are back in action. I decided against bringing them to Ireland (which was probably for the best considering I hardly ever wore the red jeans I brought), so we were separated for four long months. When I got home from my trip, they felt brand new and I couldn't wait to wear them! idea: maybe if I do that with all my clothes I will never feel the need to go shopping again...

Even though these orange pants are a bit more suitable for spring, I think they work perfectly with the warm California winter we have been having. I decided to keep my outfit simple by pairing them with my trusty chambray and layering a neutral cardigan over. It's simple, go-to outfits like this that I tend to repeat over and over again.

A Little Bit of Everything

Friday, February 1, 2013

I'm pretty sure this outfit is the product of my indecisiveness. I couldn't decide if I wanted to wear color, lace, or florals...so I just threw them all together and called it a day! However, even though this outfit is a little busier than what I normally wear, I'm happy with how it turned out. As I mentioned in my last post, I snagged this skirt at a cute little boutique on London's Portobello Road. I like the fact that it is fitted, but still skims my knees. I hate when I have to constantly pull down short skirts because they ride up after I walk two steps down the street!!

Anyway, these photos were taken over in a Hollywood neighborhood near Grub. Andrew and I ate there for the second weekend in a row, because—believe it or not—my assignments for my sociology seminar require me to explore new parts of Hollywood each week. As much as I hate school sometimes, there are definitely perks to being a sociology major :)

P.S. I can't believe it is already February! Even though it has already been over a month, it still feels like I just left Europe yesterday...

Galway Girl

After visiting the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren, we spent some time exploring Galway City. The sun was shining all day, so I fared well in a button-up and light cardigan. Because I had packed really light (I'm not exaggerating, I promise!) for this trip, I didn't bring any jewelry...so I felt like my outfit looked a little bland without any accessories.

My first instinct was to throw on a scarf. Instead, however, I wanted to try something new by buttoning my plaid shirt all the way up, rather than leaving the top button open. This way of wearing collared shirts is really popular in Ireland, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try! I'm happy with how it turned out, and next time, when I have a statement necklace handy, I will throw it on to complete the look!
Not sure how this made it on the blog. But, sometimes, candid shots really make for the best photographs.

The Ring of Kerry

After we saw the Dingle Peninsula, Andrew and I went on a tour of the Ring of Kerry. Although I'm not the type of person who likes massive tour groups (aka I hate them), because we can't drive ourselves, a guided tour was pretty much our only means of seeing the area. So, we bit the bullet and hopped on a massive charter bus for the day. While there were definitely some moments that I wanted to run away from the huge tour group (i.e. when we stopped for lunch at a tourist trap that accepted US DOLLARS), overall, it was a nice way to see the beautiful Kerry coast. PLUS we even got to see a super touristy but actually kind of awesome demonstration from a shepherd and his sheep dogs (see picture below).

However, my favorite part of the tour was our stop at Ladies View in Killarney National Park. The lookout point was named by Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting, who loved the view of the land. And after visiting the point myself, I can definitely see why they adored it so much.

Lost Coastlines

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

After a weekend trip to the beautiful County Kerry, it's official—I am in love with Ireland. These photos were taken on the first day of our trip where we went on a small driving tour along the coastlines of the Dingle Peninsula. Our tour guide kept saying that it was the "most beautiful day of the year" and he was probably right. It was bright, sunny, and breezy the whole day and I was so excited with some of the landscape shots I was able to capture.

We used Killarney as our home base and stayed in a cute little bed and breakfast right outside of town. The town centre had some great pubs, but our favorite meal of the trip was at a place called Murphy's that had the most amazing cottage pie, beef and Guinness stew, and locally brewed Irish lager.
The only awkward part of the trip was when we found ourselves in a tourist trap bar filled with a (name-tag wearing!!!) senior citizen American tour group that had just filed in to enjoy the "local culture." What I don't think they realized is that a traditional Irish pub isn't exactly authentic when it's only customers are 100 half-pint drinking American tourists...

And it was in that moment that Andrew and I felt a little bit more like locals than American exchange students...and it was great.
