Skylines

Monday, June 17, 2013

Get the look:
hey, who's that scruffy, I mean devilishly handsome redhead?
I took a trip back home this weekend to relax after the craziness of finals and starting my new job. Luckily, Andrew and I were able to make time for a date night at one of our favorite spots and I decided to wear my new city skylines maxi skirt. I blogged about this skirt over on Beso a month or so ago, and convinced myself to get it because I had never seen a maxi skirt like it before! Plus, I have a thing for city/map prints, so this was the perfect addition to my growing collection of eclectic prints.

I was very limited on clothing options this weekend (finals week = waiting to do allll my laundry at home), but thankfully I had a clean white tank to pair with my skirt for a monochrome look. Since it was a little chilly by the water, I brought along my new chambray that I picked up this weekend at GUESS. Speaking of GUESS, you'll probably be hearing me talking about them from time to time since I'm interning at their corporate office this summer in the Social Media department. I seriously could not be more excited, and can't wait to get some valuable hands-on experience. If you're interested in seeing what I'll be up to, you can follow GUESS here:

Hollywood Forever

Thursday, August 16, 2012

{Blouse—Anthropologie "Tulip Lace Shell" (remixed), Maxi Skirt: Kaitlyn Clothing (remixed), Straw Fedora—university store (remixed), Earrings—Nordstrom, Belt—Nordstrom, Satchel—Anthropologie}
Before you stop following my blog because you realize my photos are taken in a cemetery...READ ON! Last Sunday, Andrew and I were fortunate enough to go to the Sigur Rós concert at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Sigur Rós is one of Andrew's all-time favorite bands, so I bought tickets for us to go for his birthday a few months back. The venue was really cool, and it was so weird to see the gravestones of so many classic Hollywood stars. Mr. Alfred Hitchcock is behind me in all my photos...

P.S. Other than the amazing music and the fun picnic we set up before the show, the highlight of my night was making eye contact with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on my way to the port-a-potties. He saw me staring at him and smiled back. It. Was. Awesome.
The most important part of this photo is that it was taken by the actor who plays Kurt's dad on Glee.

And that is my claim to fame...The End!

Free Spirit

Sunday, July 22, 2012

{What I'm Wearing: Blouse—Brandy Melville (shop // remixed),
Maxi Skirt—Nordstrom BP (similar), Earrings—Anthropologie (shop)}
Even though I'm an Anthropologie/Ruche girl at heart...a part of me wishes my style was a bit more laid-back a la Free People. So every once in a while, I swap my structured cardigan and high-waisted skirt for an off the shoulder blouse and maxi skirt, and I feel all free and bohemian for those 12 hours. And then, like clockwork, I wake up the next morning and immediately reach for my favorite cardigan, falling back into my classic and familiar style.

So, here's to those exceptions—those days where you wake up and just feel like playing dress-up :)

Our Spot

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

{Maxi DressRuche (shop), Jacket—Anthropologie "Openwork Army Jacket" (shop // remixed),
Scarf—H&M (shop similar), Belt—H&M, Bracelet—vintage, Handbag—vintage, Sandals—Target (shop similar)}
I got this dress from Ruche about a month or so ago, and had been waiting for the perfect occasion to wear it out (as I've mentioned before...I tend to do that a lot). Finally, last weekend, Andrew and I both had some time off and we were able to go to our favorite little Italian restaurant for the first time this summer. So, being the fashion nerd that I am, I got really excited that I finally had something to get dressed up for! As always, we had fun walking around and looking at all the cute family-owned shops before dinner. And together, we demolished two full bread baskets, a pizza, and a big pasta dish...it was a dream come true.
I think it's funny we have been going to the same restaurant in that part of town (we refuse to try anything else) since the very beginning of our relationship. What can I say....we are creatures of habit and we love our spot.

And if you were wondering, that's Andrew...looking all classy and nautical and stuff.

The Right Side of the Bed

Thursday, May 24, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Tank: Forever 21
Cardigan: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Maxi Skirt: Kaitlyn Clothing (remixed)
Earrings: Anthropologie (shop)
Belt: Nordstrom
Wedges: Cathy Jean Shoes
Yesterday was a great day. And I'm not particularly sure why...
Maybe it was the wonderful cool breeze, or the two soy vanilla lattés I had, or the work I got done at my internship, or the nap I took at 9pm that made me wide awake at midnight...but I must have just woken up on the right side of the bed.

Plus, I finally wore this maxi skirt that I haven't styled since the last time it showed up on my blog back in October! The skirt is a bit long on me, so unless I hike it up below my chest, I need to wear wedges with it. And I was feeling daring, so rather than changing into flats after my internship, I proudly wore my wedges to class and only got a few weird looks. It was great.
On a final note, I would just like to thank you all for being so supportive of my blog. I truly appreciate all the kind emails and comments I have been receiving lately. It really is a great motivator and makes me want to blog even more, so thank you.

P.S. Happy (almost) three day weekend...

One of Those Days

Thursday, May 17, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Vest: Forever 21 (remixed)
Maxi Skirt: Nordstrom Brass Plum (remixed)
Earrings: Anthropologie (shop)
Watch: Michael Kors
Flats: Anthropologie
I wore this semi-bohemian outfit to my internship yesterday. It was about 80 degrees outside, so I figured I would go with a breezy maxi and sleeveless top in an attempt to stay cool. Unfortunately, I forgot the little known fact that polyester is very conducive to sweating and is no match for humidity.

In all honesty, I was kind of a hot and tired mess the whole afternoon. Partly because of the heat, and partly because it really was just one of those days...

Comfort

Sunday, April 29, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Petal Window Tee" (shop, remixed)
Maxi Skirt: Nordstrom BP (remixed 1, 2, & 3)
Necklace: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Nordstrom
Sandals: Forever 21
Many times, what I wear to work is dictated by what items have been selling well in the store. This "Petal Window Tee" has been pretty popular lately, so I decided to wear it for my shift on Friday to give customers some styling inspiration.

Originally, I had tucked my tee into the maxi skirt, but its hi-low length made it look bulky and weird under the skirt. So, I decided to show off its hemline by wearing it untucked with a belt. Wearing it untucked also made my outfit much more relaxed and comfortable, which are two very important factors to consider when working a six-hour closing shift.

Working Girl

Saturday, November 19, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Forever 21 (similar)
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP (similar)
Maxi Skirt: Nordstrom BP (similar)
Necklace: gifted
Scarf: Nordstrom (similar)
I'm sitting in Starbucks (surrounded by holiday decorations and peppermint mochas) as a write this post. It's super crowded in here because its during Starbuck's buy one get one free holiday special. I love the holidays...and as you know, I love coffee. So, what could be better than my two favorite things in one place? It's pretty amazing, even though this wonderful holiday atmosphere does not facilitate focused studying...

I wore this outfit yesterday for a long day at work. I've found that maxi skirts and dresses are the perfect uniform for work, because they feel like pajamas even after 8 hours on my feet. I also love that I can add a scarf to any outfit and automatically make it fall-appropriate. Anyways, I'm scheduled for quite a few shifts next week for the Thanksgiving holiday, and even though I wasn't crazy about it at first, I love my job...and I especially love it during the holidays.

Anthropologie during the holidays = Starbucks during the holidays? It's a toss up....

Relief

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Sweater: Frenchi via Nordstrom BP
Maxi Skirt: Nordstrom BP (here)
Scarf: Forever 21
Earrings: Anthropologie
Watch: DKNY
Handbag: Fossil

I'm happy to announce that I have left my study bubble and entered the real world again! Today, out of habit, I went straight to the library to study after class...only to realize that I don't have much to study for. So, for no reason, I spent four hours in the library drinking coffee, editing photos from my sorority date party, going on Facebook, and working on my study abroad application...and it was amazing. What would have been even more amazing is me not actually being in the library, but lets take it one step at a time.

Surprisingly, I wore this outfit on the one day I decided to wear "real" clothes in the midst of my study frenzy. And I only wore it because this sweater, scarf, and maxi skirt feel like loose and cozy pajamas when I'm wearing them all together. (Here's another maxi styling for you, Jenn!)

I would also like to thank my photographer/bff for graciously offering to take my pictures for this post. As much as I love my tripod, smiling at an actual person once in a while makes me feel a little less crazy...
