Simple Mix

Monday, October 31, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Blazing Blouse"
Cardigan: Forever 21
Skinny Jeans: Cotton On
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum

I feel like this outfit has the perfect mix of prints and simplicity. When I bought this silk top over the summer, I wasn't really sure how to creatively style it. The last time I wore it, I just paired it alone with jeans...and although the print can stand on its own, it felt a little too simple for me. However, I feel like this tan striped cardigan is the perfect fit for it.

Sometimes, there's nothing better than a simple, classic outfit with a little twist.

Cozy

Friday, October 28, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Tank: Anthropologie "Serigraph Tank"
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Dita Bootcut via Buffalo Exchange
Scarf: Urban Outfitters (here)
Flats: Steve Madden

I wore this on the one day it decided to be less than 70 degrees in LA, and I loved it. Too bad I got my hopes up the following day, bundled up, and then realized it was a typical summer October day in Southern California. As much as I love LA weather, sometimes its nice to be able to walk to class and not be dripping in sweat once I get there. Yes...I'm the girl you sit next to in lecture who, instead of taking notes, is blotting her face while the professor is talking.

Anyways, I'm writing this post in the library as a break from my midterm studying. And by "studying" I mean, I walked to the library...went on Facebook...got coffee...opened my class notes...and then decided to blog. Now, as much as I would love to continue this post, sociological research methods await me...and I can't keep them waiting for too much longer...

(mini) Milestone

Thursday, October 27, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
T-shirt: Urban Outfitters (here)
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP
Skirt: Anthropologie "Million Pleats Midi"
Flats: Anthropologie "Doily Flounce Flats" (on sale here)

Yesterday, my little blog reached a (mini) milestone. I am proud to say that The Caffeinated Closet has made it to 10,000 views! Although this may seem silly in comparison to other big blogs out there, it was a pretty exciting moment for me. I've been blogging for just under three months, and this little accomplishment has given me the motivation to continue expanding and developing this blog.

In other news, I wore this outfit to my first official meeting as a social media intern for my university's volunteer center. This is an exciting opportunity for me and I can't wait for everything ahead. Going to such a big university has been overwhelming, and last year it was hard for me to figure out what I wanted to get involved in. So, its nice to finally be getting involved and finding my place.

I've also decided that this outfit is one of my new favorites. On a whim, I threw this bright cardigan over my top and skirt, but I really like how the unusual color combination turned out. This blog is an outlet for me to experiment with my style and try new things, and I plan on taking more fashion risks in the coming months.

So...here's to a new blog milestone, a new internship, and a new take on fashion.

Oh, and TGIT.

My recent outfit in this post is featured on Shop Kempt's "Kempt Styled" section of their website! Check it out here.

50/50

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Gap
Sweater: Anthropologie "Swoop & Glide Pullover" (on sale here)
Jeans: Joe's Jeans via Anthropologie
Boots: Cathy Jean Shoes (here)
Handbag: Fossil

I wore this to see 50/50 with my boyfriend this weekend and cried like a baby. Seriously though. I had to wash this sweater the next day because there were mascara stains on it...and I was wearing water-proof mascara. I'm telling you, if you haven't seen the movie yet, do yourself a favor and see it.

I picked this sweater up on sale at Anthro last week and I'm happy with my purchase because I think it can be styled for pretty much any season. I'm going to create an unnecessary comparison and say it was fitting for me to wear it to the movie (minus staining easily) because its style is 50 percent spring, 50 percent fall, and 50 percent winter, and maybe even 50 percent summer? Don't question my logic...I'm a Sociology major, not a math major. It also has birds on it...and judging from my last post I guess I have a new obsession.

The Office

Monday, October 24, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: c/o Shop Kempt. "Birdie Asymmetrical Dress" (here)
Denim Jacket: Life in Progress via Forever 21
Belt: Target
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum brand
Handbag: Fossil
I wore this outfit to see a free Puss in Boots pre-screening this weekend. Surprisingly, it was a pretty cute movie, but I'm not sure if I'm just saying that because it was free. I also didn't get a picture with my 3D glasses...but I assure you they completed the outfit.

As for everything else, I'm at a loss for what to write because I'm too busy thinking about the midterms I should be studying for instead of blogging. I've been hiding in my closet/cave/makeshift office all week pretending to study, but instead I just keep getting distracted by all the clothes and accessories around me.

This may not make sense to most of you, but my sorority house is set up so that there are only large common study areas rather than personal desks. So, in my boredom/desperation I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own desk in my favorite place of all...

Where's Waldo

Sunday, October 23, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Forever 21
Striped Sweater: LOFT
Jeans: Hidden Horses via Anthropologie
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Watch: DKNY
Beanie: Anthropologie (here
Sperry Top-Sider: Nordstrom (on sale here)

Amidst all the hustle and bustle of school, sometimes I desperately need a few hours to myself. So the other day, I decided to play hooky and wore this outfit for a solo shopping and Starbucks trip. Call me anti-social...but it was amazing.

I'm also busy with studying for midterms getting my application to study abroad in Ireland next fall ready. And even though I should be focusing...all I can dream about is this:

Hopefully, I'll be here this same time next year...

A Classic

Saturday, October 22, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Vintage
Necklace: gifted
Cardigan: Anthropologie "Anza Cardi"(on sale in stores now)
Jeans: Joe's Jeans via Anthropologie
Flats: Anthropologie "Doily Flounce Flats" (here)

I would definitely consider this one of my classic outfits. When I don't know what to wear, the blouse + cardigan + belt combo never seems to fail me. I am also starting to think that this cardigan is becoming my new favorite...even more than this one.

Tablecloth

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Dita Bootcut via Buffalo Exchange
Earrings: Betsey Johnson
Sandals: Target

Yesterday I decided to mix it up and wear a tablecloth to class. Not really....but actually kind of. I don't think I was aware of the extent of the fabric on this shirt before I bought it. However, I quickly discovered its far reaching abilities when I managed to drag the bottom of it in all my food throughout the day. By the end of the day the bottom had peanut butter, salad dressing, and some random meatloaf ketchup on it. I guess that's what I get for trying to buy something hipster from Urban Outfitters. Now that I think about it, I should also probably learn to eat more neatly.

Anyways, I actually still really like this shirt and I'm just complaining. It also somehow always reminds me of these dolls every time I look at it...

Color Inspiration

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Drape & Twist Tee" (on sale here)
Cardigan: H&M
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Kelly Bootcut via Buffalo Exchange
Earrings: Nordstrom
Sandals: Target
Handbag: Fossil

Initially, I wasn't sure what to pair this top with. However, I had an epiphany this morning and decided to pair it with my mustard sweater, thinking I had come up with the color combination all on my own.

And then...I threw my taupe and yellow book bag over my shoulder and suddenly connected the dots. In an effort to look a little less color-coordinated I frantically swapped handbags and was late to my first class/didn't eat breakfast.

Clearly, I have my own unique set of priorities...

Longer Lengths

Sunday, October 16, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Camisole: LOFT
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP (on sale here)
Maxi Skirt: Kaitlyn Clothing (here)
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Clogs: Target
Handbag: Anthropologie

I'm on a maxi skirt buying binge...and by binge I mean I now own two maxi skirts. You can see my first one here. This maxi skirt was a bit of an impulse buy while I was out for my friend's birthday. However, I figured that since I am obsessed with rust and have two short skirts that are already this color...then a longer version would fit perfectly into my wardrobe.

I wore this outfit to work last night and my only complaint was the fact that it kept getting caught in my clogs every time I bent down to pick something up. I guess that's what I get for being short and insisting on wearing tall people clothes anyways...

First Day

Saturday, October 15, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Gap (new in stores)
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Earrings: Claire's
Sandals: Forever 21

I've definitely been neglecting taking outfit pictures amidst the craziness of school and work. I actually wore this outfit on my second day of work, not first...but labeling a post "Second Day" doesn't quite have the same ring.

Fortunately, all the outfits I wore this week fell into a black hole and went undocumented...and therefore I can re-wear them and blog them later with no shame. Just kidding I don't actually think like that.

Maybe...

These Clogs Are Made For Walking

Sunday, October 9, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Heritage 1981
Blazer: Sparkle and Fade via Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Anthropologie J Brand "Love Story" Flares
Earrings: Anthropologie
Handbag: Anthropologie
Clogs: Target

I wore this outfit last week on a date into Westwood. Sometimes its nice to dress up a little, especially after I get used to dressing down so much for class. Plus, my clogs have been silently sitting on my shoe rack, waiting and hoping to be worn. So, I finally gave in and decided to take them for a walk...even though I later regretted walking in heels all over town. What I regret the most? deliriously referring to my shoes like they are dogs since I'm missing mine so much right now.

As for right now, I'm exhausted from the sorority retreat I had this weekend. And my legs are awkwardly sore from a hike we took to the Hollywood sign. Probably because I'm not used to hiking...or exercising...or pretty much any form of physical activity that doesn't involve eating.

and now off to write a paper...and by write I mean go to sleep and procrastinate on it until tomorrow.
