Spring Mix

Monday, April 1, 2013

Sometimes it's nice to wear two trends at once to see how they work together. Such was the case with this outfit. I recently picked up this gingham shirt at Forever 21, after seeing my best friend Hayley wearing it...and deciding I needed it too—this is the only good thing about us living in two different cities! But, because I didn't bring much home for spring break, I didn't have very many bottom options to pair it with. I knew I wanted to wear something more than jeans, so when I saw my mint skirt in my suitcase, I thought it was crazy enough of a combo that it just. might. work. And...I think it did! My whole outfit felt very springy, and I am glad that the more neutral navy color of my gingham shirt was able to off-set the brightness of my mint pleated skirt.

So, here's my little piece of spring styling advice: You never know what will or will not work until you try it on! The great thing about spring is that you can get away with a lot more color and print mixing. So, when you have the chance...go for it!

Disco Pleats

This outfit had a very 1970's feel to me. Perhaps it was my dangly earrings, or maybe the polyester button-up under my denim jacket, but I pretty much felt ready to put on my skates and head to the roller disco all day. I had originally tucked my polka dot blouse into my skirt, but after wearing it for an hour or so I realized it was a lot more comfortable to have it out and belted. I'm so used to tucking everything in, that I have never really thought twice about trying something new. But, I really like the way my outfit turned out, so I definitely want to start mixing it up more.

Anyway, it's my last week of classes and I'm in full study-mode. Ask me anything about the sociology of gender and I could talk for days...

Happy Monday!

I have a little to-do list going of all the areas in LA I want to see before I graduate, and these past few weeks I have been beginning to conquer that list. This Saturday, Andrew and I had an afternoon date filled with delicious red velvet pancakes from The Griddle in West Hollywood and a matinee showing of 21 Jump Street at The Grove (both of which were amazing!).

It was fun to drive around, eat delicious food, and ignore all the assignments and readings I have looming over my head. Plus, we managed to find a random parking garage that had a pretty good view of the Hollywood sign at the top.
Even though I was not the biggest fan of LA when I first moved here, after venturing into more of the city, LA may or may not be starting to grow on me...

Quality Time

Monday, March 26, 2012

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Forever 21
Cardigan: Forever 21 (shop different color)
Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Shoes: Sperry Top-Sider
Spring is a time for wearing florals, bright colors, flowy skirts, and taking fashion risks. And I had truly forgotten how fun it is to dress for spring until I put this quirky outfit together. I'll be the first to admit...this outfit was definitely a fashion risk, but there is something about this unusual color combination that makes it all work together in the end. Who knows, maybe I'm crazy and the five people that looked me up and down on the boardwalk were right. But, frankly, I'm sticking to my gut on this one and officially proclaiming it as one of my favorite spring outfits!

And it was the perfect outfit to wear for a wonderful day of quality time together. It's not often that we get to spend a whole Saturday out together, so I cherish these days when they finally come along—thank you spring break!

Brunch, beach, Mexican food, and a movie (Friends with Kids). It doesn't get much better than that.
