A Little Leopard

Monday, September 30, 2013

Get the look:
It feels like every time I walk into Target to buy toiletries, I leave with a new pair of shoes. Did I need leopard print heels? No, no I did not. But I figured it would be better to snag a relatively cheap Target version rather than spending an arm and a leg on a pair I won't wear that much. Despite the fact that these gave me terrible blisters and I was hobbling around the office by the end of the day, I actually love them and want to wear them as much as possible (note: next time, with bandaids). I like how they can make a simple outfit combo a bit more fun!

P.S. I survived sorority recruitment and managed to have fun in between losing my voice and doing chants in my sleep. I really can't believe it's already my senior year, and I spent the majority of this weekend feeling super nostalgic and taking lots of annoying sorority photos that I actually kind of love.

Thrifty

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Get the look:
I usually have terrible luck whenever I go thrifting, so I was pretty excited when I found this dress at Crossroads Trading Co. this summer. It did require some alterations, but luckily my limited sewing abilities were enough to make it work. Another added bonus is that it's super stretchy and comfortable, which is probably one of the main reasons it's been one of my go-to dresses the past couple months.

In other news, classes started today and sorority recruitment is in full swing so I'm exhausted and have a sultry kind of scary, raspy voice. I'll probably be back to posting next week once things go back to normal again!

Secret Spot

Friday, September 20, 2013

Get the look:
I finally discovered a place to take blog photos at work! It's a secluded stairwell off our parking lot and the perfect place to set up a tripod without getting weird looks from passersby. While I have (kind of) mastered the art of not caring what random people think, it is nice to take my outfit photos in peace. Really though...I was weirdly excited when I found this secret little spot.

Mainly, I think it's just nice to finally be getting back in the swing of things. If there is anything I've learned about myself over the past few years (or even just this summer, really), I desperately need a schedule. I gave up the grand idea of being "crazy and spontaneous" a while ago...and I think I'm okay with it :)

Back in Action

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Get the look:
Well...it only took me about two months, but I'm officially back to (style) blogging! Plus, it seemed only fitting for my first outfit back to involve some form of printed pants. Even though I haven't blogged about them much, they really have been my go-to this summer. That...and these high-waisted denim shorts that are two sizes too big for me and make me look like I just walked straight out of Coachella—don't ask (you'll probably see them soon). So, you really haven't missed much in terms of outfits while I've been away.

Anyway, last week one of my coworkers commented on my love for wearing pajamas printed pants to work and said I "pulled them off really well"...which has since only fueled my fire even more. But truthfully, the compliment did make my day.

P.S. It feels good to be back :)

Drinking the Kool-Aid

Monday, September 9, 2013

This past weekend some friends and I ventured to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a screening of the 1950's film All About Eve. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the movie (with my short attention span, I have a tendency to lose interest in the middle of long films). But, I didn't initially go for the screening itself. Instead, what drew me in was the promise of a pre-movie picnic, spending time with friends, and the fact that I've been going a little stir crazy having "nothing" to do on my two-week vacation from work.

As we were standing in line waiting for the gates to open, we talked about how "LA" the night was. And as much as I sometimes hate to admit my involvement in a cliché—it really was. The warm summer night complete with Whole Foods, plenty of instagramming, and even a C-list celebrity sighting made it all so stereotypically LA I could cry. And...I loved every second of it. Truth is, I drank that LA Kool-Aid a while back and I'm loving every sugary flavor. It certainly took me a while to fall in love with this glorified suburb, but now that it's happened, I think I might need a few more good years here before I'm ready to leave.

No Outfit, Just Some Thoughts...

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Hi again! It's been a while, hasn't it? Probably the longest I've gone without blogging in the past two years. In fact, turns out I missed my two-year "blogiversary" by about 20 days. So...while I'm here...happy two years of blogging to me! Anyways, this has been a crazy month filled with a lot of personal changes. Because this is a public blog and not my personal diary, I'll spare you of all the nitty gritty details. Instead, I'll write something wonderfully vague to satisfy both my need to vent as well as give some sort of explanation for my absence.

As I get older, I'm becoming all the more aware that life is simply a series of constant changes and adjustments. Seeing as I don't do so well with change, this has been a hard pill for me to swallow. I've tried to explain it using the analogy of an ebb and flow. There are periods of time when everything seems to be going right, I'm in a natural routine, and I might even find myself, dare I say it...bored. However, as the universe will have it, too long of a flow is usually followed by an ebb—a more tumultuous period that usually involves a lot of change. It's a time when everything appears off balance and wine nights with my roommates seem to be the solution to everything (okay I take it back: these wine nights happen during the good times, too). If this convoluted analogy doesn't make any sense, perhaps this one will: When it rains, it pours.

Regardless of what metaphor I use to explain this past month, August has been a bit of a downpour and blogging hasn't really been on my radar. It's even taken me about two weeks to motivate myself to write this blog post. I have no doubt that I'll eventually get back into the habit of blogging since I really do love it, but getting my actual life together is taking a higher priority in this whole situation. Summer is coming to a close, and I'm about to enter my last quarter of college. Don't get me started...I'm already having a mild panic attack. My best friend and I have taken to calling it senior quarter rather than senior year since we are both taking the plunge into the "real world" come December. While I feel surprisingly prepared for what's to come, it's still hard to wrap my head around all the personal and professional changes that are headed my way in the coming months. Last night my roommates and I were discussing the whirlwind of changes that this past year has brought, so I can only imagine the craziness that these next 12 months have in store.

For now, I'm just trying to keep my head above water and appreciate the strong support system I have at home and in LA. Not to sound cheesy, but it's something I really am so grateful for. And, when all else fails, I've been living by this simple quote (yeah, maybe I found it on a Dove chocolate wrapper, who knows): You are exactly where you are supposed to be.

So...here's to a crazy September!
