Scottish Snapshots

Saturday, December 22, 2012

My scruffy man. He definitely passed as a local with that red hair of his :)
A view of Old Town from the Calton Hill lookout point.
It's no wonder Edinburgh Castle was never attacked...
Andrew on top of the National Monument of Scotland.
Our good friends Meng and Jason :)
A wonderful mix of old and new...
This happened a lot.
A magically eerie graveyard near Calton Hill
You know something is funny when it gives me a double chin...
These snapshots sum up my weekend in Edinburgh, Scotland. I was able to roam the city, visit Edinburgh Castle, explore old graveyards, climb Calton Hill, and spend time with good friends.

Edinburgh is a gem, and definitely worth visiting if you are traveling around the UK!

Calton Hill

Friday, December 21, 2012

Even though I have so many florals, I couldn't resist this dress! I bought it for my study abroad program's Thanksgiving dinner, but decided to get more wear out of it by remixing it the next morning.  I made it more casual by layering my chambray shirt on top, and wearing a thermal underneath for warmth. My favorite part of the dress is that the floral print is almost like a photograph, rather than just a sketch of flowers. I also loved the cut of it, with its retro high neckline and tucked waist.

These photos were taken on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. The public park (seriously...I can't believe this is what parks are like in Scotland!) had amazing views of the city and of Arthur's Seat hill. I will be posting more travel photos from it soon :)

Victoria Street

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

One of my favorite parts of Edinburgh was the colorful thoroughfare of Victoria Street. There were so many neat shops to explore, and we found an adorable used bookshop at the top of the street. Andrew, being the book lover that he is, was in heaven when we walked in, and managed to snag a couple vintage copies of his favorite novels. The shop also had tons of one-of-a-kind of vintage maps and prints, so we were able to spend a good chunk of time browsing its many shelves.

I decided to wear my comfortable striped dress, and layered both under and over it since it was so cold and rainy. You can't really tell from the pictures, but I layered a chambray shirt between my coat and dress. I think it helped add a little more color to my outfit when I wasn't wearing my black coat. Although I do like dressing for the cold, I have limited winter clothing options, so a lot of my outfits tend to look bland unless I add layers or accessories with pops of color!

Off to Edinburgh

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Even though I'm ridiculously behind on blogging (as in...I went to Scotland at the very beginning of November), I'm still really excited to share all my photos with you. Edinburgh was one of those cities that I hadn't heard much about, and I didn't know what to expect. I took a quick weekend trip up there for a "Thanksgiving" dinner that was sponsored through my study abroad program, and the city surprised me with its rich history and beauty. It was the perfect mix of old and new, and I loved that the gorgeous Edinburgh castle looked over the entire metropolitan city.

More photos coming soon! ♥
