Hanger Appeal

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Striped Top: Forever 21
Floral Top: Brandy Melville
Cardigan: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Jeans: Joe's Jeans via Anthropologie
Wedges: Cathy Jean Shoes
Bag: Anthropologie "Lane Lines Bag"
This is one of those tops that looks pretty on the hanger, and you convince yourself to buy it because it's a "layering piece" and will "go with everything." And then you get home, try it on, and realize it makes you look awkwardly proportioned and weirdly shaped.

Ahh but when in doubt? add stripes and a fitted cardigan...and voilĂ ! The perfect mix that will convince anyone your most unflattering top is the best thing around.
Anyways, I am currently on day two out of my ten days of final exam hell. One ten page paper down....three more finals...and two more papers to go!

I. can. do. this.

Second Thanksgiving

Sunday, November 27, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Sweater Dress: Nordstrom BP (here)
Scarf: vintage
Belt: Target
Tights: Target
Boots: Nordstrom BP
I wore this to a second Thanksgiving dinner with my boyfriend's family. Unfortunately, I quickly learned that a stiff leather waist belt and turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing do not mix. The dress didn't look quite the same without the curve-creating belt. However, I believe the day-after-Thanksgiving feast managed to create a few curves on its own...

Black Friday

Saturday, November 26, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie Bailey 44 "Instant Classic Tee" (different color here)
Jeans: AG "The Stevie Ankle" (here)
Scarf: Madison Bleu
Watch: DKNY
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Congratulations to myself, for surviving my first Black Friday working retail. I successfully managed to drive back home for a few days, drive back to LA Thanksgiving night, wake up at 3:30 am for my 5:00 am shift at Anthropologie, work through masses of bargain-hunting shoppers for 8 hours, and drive back home.

And this outfit got me through it all (as well as a Grande 3-shot soy latte), even though these jeans are a size too big and my shirt is somewhat see-through...*

All in all, it was a good learning experience, and I'm happy to say I probably won't be facing Black Friday again for another few years (since I'll most likely be in Ireland next Fall!).

*remember: there's nothing a scarf, belt, and cup of coffee can't fix.

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Striped Era Tee" (on sale here)
Cords: Old Navy
Belt: Target:

Amidst all the craziness of school, it's nice to take a step back and look at the big picture. And when I do this...I realize I have a lot to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Forever 21 (similar)
Cardigan: Nordstrom BP (similar)
Maxi Skirt: Nordstrom BP (similar)
Necklace: gifted
Scarf: Nordstrom (similar)
I'm sitting in Starbucks (surrounded by holiday decorations and peppermint mochas) as a write this post. It's super crowded in here because its during Starbuck's buy one get one free holiday special. I love the holidays...and as you know, I love coffee. So, what could be better than my two favorite things in one place? It's pretty amazing, even though this wonderful holiday atmosphere does not facilitate focused studying...

I wore this outfit yesterday for a long day at work. I've found that maxi skirts and dresses are the perfect uniform for work, because they feel like pajamas even after 8 hours on my feet. I also love that I can add a scarf to any outfit and automatically make it fall-appropriate. Anyways, I'm scheduled for quite a few shifts next week for the Thanksgiving holiday, and even though I wasn't crazy about it at first, I love my job...and I especially love it during the holidays.

Anthropologie during the holidays = Starbucks during the holidays? It's a toss up....

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Blaue Blume Blouse"(remixed here)
Skirt: Anthropologie (remixed here)
Earrings: Nordstrom BP
Belt: Target
Scarf: Forever 21
Boots: Nordstrom BP
Lately, I've been feeling like there isn't a whole lot of time in the day to do much of anything but sleep, eat, and go to class. Although I have been making as much time as I can to blog, I look back on my posts from the summer and feel as though I put a lot more time and effort into them than I do now. And as much as I wish I had enough time to wear an outfit and then blog about it the same day...I just don't. So, as usual...this is an outfit I wore yesterday four days ago. Its a combination of a couple of pieces I wore this summer (here and here), but remixed with a scarf and boots for fall.

I wore this outfit right before I headed home for the weekend (in which I wore the same thermal and jeans combo for 3 days straight...). Being home was great, and it was wonderful to have a few days to relax with my parents and little sister dog. However, it just made me realize how ready I am for a break from college.

I want a month of no classes, time for myself, and the holidays. But most of all, I just want to be home.

Lydia

Thursday, November 10, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: birthday gift via Urban Outfitters (here)
Blazer: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity via Buffalo Exchange
Boots: Cathy Jean Shoes (here)
Necklace: Dogeared (here)
I wore this outfit last weekend to see Lydia perform at The Roxy in LA. Although I'm not a devout follower of the band, they are one of my boyfriend's favorite bands so it was still exciting to see them live. Unfortunately, as much as I love this outfit, it didn't quite fit in with the alternative rock scene...something I quickly figured out once I arrived. But nevertheless, it was a great night.

Prairie Girl

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Anthropologie "Night-and-Day Dress" (remixed here)
Cardigan: Anthropologie "Anza Cardi"
Belt: Target
Tights: Target
Boots: Nordstrom Brass Plum
I wore this outfit last Friday for a long day at work. It had been raining all morning, so this was my take on a "rainy day" outfit...that I would be wearing inside all day. As you can see from my last post, I'm beginning to remix summer dresses into my fall/winter wardrobe. And I'm starting to think I like them better styled for the colder months than for the summer. In my opinion, a cardigan, belt, and boots can complete any outfit.

In other news...actually there is no other news. Lately, my life has been one long string of me writing papers, complaining about it, taking midterms, complaining about it, and being stressed. But this is about to change (until finals), because its almost Thanksgiving and then almost winter break.

and you know what that means?
overspending on black Friday. excessively drinking Starbucks peppermint mochas in red Christmas cups. and pretending to bake holiday treats for my friends...only to eat them all myself.

in a few weeks...life will be good :)

Remix

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Nordstrom BP (here)
Denim Jacket: Heritage 1981 via Forever 21
Scarf: Forever 21
Tights: Target
Boots: Cathy Jean Shoes (here)

These past few weeks have been constantly go go go for me. And I feel like I haven't really had a second to breathe. Last week I finished midterms, and thought I was in the clear...only to be "surprised" by a ten page paper that I thoroughly underestimated.

To be honest, I don't even remember when I wore this outfit. But, I do know that it was sometime last week, during one of the wonderful "winter" days we have been having in LA. Its been cold, and surprisingly, I've been loving it. Unfortunately, I was not anticipating 50-60 degree days when I packed for school, so I've been rotating between a few sweaters and my denim jackets while my actual warm clothes sit tucked away back home. Anyways, you can see the last time I wore this dress here, way back at the end of summer. I love it when dresses like this can be easily transitioned from summer to the colder seasons.

P.S. I have about four un-blogged outfits patiently waiting in my iPhoto to be posted. Dear college...can I please put you on pause for just a few days?

A Black Dress Affair: Day to Night

Monday, November 7, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Day                                                   Night
Dress: Nordstrom BP (here)                          Dress: Katwalk boutique
Pumps: Nine West                                    Heels: Steve Madden
These photos are from my sorority "Presents" day ceremony and night date party. It is tradition for the old members to wear black dresses, while the new members, who are being "presented" to the sorority, wear white. If you are looking for the perfect party dress, the black dress that I wore for the day ceremony (here) comes in six different colors and is flattering on almost all body types because of its strategic ruching. In fact, many of the girls who were being presented had it in white, and they all looked fantastic.

As for the black dress I wore for my date party, its definitely more revealing than the dresses I usually wear. However, I've always wanted to make a statement with a backless dress, so when I saw this dress online a few months ago, I knew it would be perfect for this event. A foot of dress tape and sticky gel bra later...and it was good to go!

Anyways, please excuse my lack of posts these past few days. I've been in a bit of a mid-quarter crisis and have been feeling pretty stressed and overwhelmed. But here's to a new (and hopefully less stressful) week...

Happy Monday!
