Back to School?

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Free People via Loemann's
Jeans: Joe's Jeans via Anthropologie
Handbag: Anthropologie "Lane Lines Bag"
Sandals: Forever 21
Necklace: birthday gift

Even though classes have been in session for a week, it still doesn't quite feel like school. I'm still in the summer/sorority recruitment mindset...so I'm having a lot of trouble focusing. However, what I do like about going back to school are fun casual outfits like this, especially when its a little chilly and I have a nice mug of coffee in hand.

Plus, having classes means carrying a book bag around and looking studious. Even though this book bag barely fits anything and isn't very useful, I still love it and will insist on wearing it until at least the third week of class.

To sum up my first week:
Ever class discussion I have gone to, I've been the annoying girl who forgets to bring both a paper and pen to class. I don't even own a spiral notebook yet...

Sweet 19

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Anthropologie "Camera Obscura Chemise"
Heels: Nordstrom Brass Plum
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Earrings: Claire's
Watch: DKNY

For my birthday, I decided to throw a super awesome party for me and 150 of my closest friends. I came out in a glittery pink ball gown, wore a custom-made tiara, and gave each of my guests a personally engraved iPod shuffle. I also had a DJ that played Justin Bieber all night long and I jumped up and down to the music like I was back at my 8th grade promotion dance. It was awesome.

My birthday was actually this past Saturday in the midst of sorority recruitment. These pictures were taken a few weeks ago when Andrew and I celebrated my birthday before moving back to school because I knew things would be crazy once classes and recruitment started.

I came up with my birthday outfit on a whim after snagging this night gown on clearance at Anthropologie. Personally, I don't know anyone who would actually wear this to sleep...but I did feel like a rebel wearing "pajamas" out in public.

These past few days have been super tiring and I'm having trouble forming a logical succession of sentences. To make things easier I've decided to format this blog post in the form of primitive bullet notes.
  • crazy few weeks
  • sorority recruitment
  • small talk for 8+ hours = exhaustion
  • wore this outfit to job interview 2 weeks ago
  • necklace = [early] birthday present from bf
  • pink skirt + stripes = ♥
  • classes start tomorrow
  • off to sleep

Summer Flashback

Friday, September 16, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Tank: Forever 21
Cargo Pants: Jolt via Nordstrom Brass Plum
Earrings: Claire's
Sandals: Target
Handbag: Fossil
Belt: Target
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

I wore this outfit to Laguna Beach during one of the last days of summer. When I say that it sounds like summer was months ago...when it was really only a week ago.

Although I would love to explain the inspiration behind my outfit, I'm running off very little sleep and the only things on my mind right now are sorority recruitment, double stick tape, and this:

off to craft...

One Month

Monday, September 12, 2011

Its my one month blog-iversary (!)...so it seems fitting to post my new closet that I will have in my sorority house for the next school year.

Its a different setup from my old closet but I definitely think I'm going to like having everything more consolidated.

So...here's to a new year, a new closet, and new inspiration.

Adjustment

Sunday, September 11, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
T-shirt: Forever 21
Skirt: Anthropologie "Gifted Skirt"
Scarf: Vintage
Wedges: Jessica Simpson

As I begin to settle into my sorority house and get ready for school to start...my posts over the next few weeks will probably consist of outfits I wore this summer but never got around to posting.

So if you saw me today (in real life), unfortunately, I did not wear this outfit under all my other clothes. Although...I guess that would be something different.

and I'm always open to trying new things...?

Adventure

Friday, September 9, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Urban Outfitters (on sale here)
Sweater: Anthropologie "Filigree Cardi"
Belt: Vintage
Earrings: Nordstrom BP
Wedges: Cathy Jean
Handbag: Fossil

...by "adventure" I mean finding the one open field in town and taking pictures outside its fence.

I wore this outfit to Sunday brunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant, Taco Rosa. The food was delicious and it was also an excellent excuse for me to dress up a little more than usual.

Initially, I wasn't sure if these two bright colors and bold textures would work well together...but I feel like they created an unusual feminine and retro look. I got a few strange looks at brunch, but I felt great in my outfit...which is all that really matters.

I also just like wearing this cardigan, because I'm always reminded of how I—through some amazing miracle—snagged it at my store for $9.95. It was a piece from last fall that I had obsessed over, but could never bring myself to pay full price for. Fast forward about a year, and this cardigan (in my size) somehow ended up being returned and finding its way into my loving and welcoming closet.

To add to the adventure, I managed to get myself stuck in a gutter full of snails. The picture on the right? the face of true fear. Sad to say... it actually is candid.

That 70's Sale

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: Anthropologie "Silk Blooms Eternal Top" (on sale here)
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Kelly Stretch Bootcut via Buffalo Exchange (same style here)
Earrings: Anthropologie (here)
Watch: DKNY
Clogs: Target

I can't lie to you...I did not wear this today. I actually wore this a few days ago to work and got a handful of customers asking me if I could grab them the same blouse in their size. The awkward part? when I told them that I bought the last one...

Listen people, sales are serious business. I woke up early—against my own will—and came into the store first thing (last) Tuesday morning to find this top in my size.

When in doubt?

East Coast

Sunday, September 4, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Tunic: Shop Kempt. Laurette Pocket Blouse (buy here)
Cardigan: Anthropologie "Anza Cardigan" (on sale here)
Skinny Jeans: Cotton On
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Lace Bandeau: Urban Outfitters (here)
Earrings: Nordstrom BP (similar here)
Studded Flats: Old Navy
Cross-body handbag: Fossil

I built my whole outfit around this lovely tunic that I recently received from a new online boutique, Shop Kempt. I was originally going to simply wear the tunic and jeans, however, my new favorite orange cardigan was lying on my bed while I was getting dressed so I decided to pair the two together to add a little more color to my outfit. Although I wasn't sure about the look at first, I actually really like how it turned out. This outfit has a very preppy East Coast feel to me (people on the East Coast reading this are probably thinking who does this California girl think she is?).

The whole ensemble seems like the perfect first day of school outfit...all I need is my laptop, hot cup of coffee, and groggy morning attitude to complete the look. 6 more days until I move back to school...(!!!!!!)
