What I'm Wearing:
Peasant Top: Anthropologie "Blaue Blume Blouse" (on sale here)
Jeans: Citizen of Humanity Dita Bootcut via Buffalo Exchange
Earrings: Nordstrom BP (similar here)
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Sandals: Target
Cross-body Handbag: Fossil

This was one of those shirts that looked so shapeless and unflattering on the hanger that I never bothered to try it on or wish list it on Anthropologie's website. However, once this shirt went on sale this morning I gave it another look in the store and finally decided to try it on for fun. Well...it was love at first try-on (?) theres a reason that isn't a clichéd phrase... I love the fit, I love the daisies, and I love the hippie-feel of this top. It also worked perfectly with the bohemian earrings I was already wearing when I tried it on.

I paired it with my new (when I say new...I mean second-hand) favorite bootcut jeans that I snagged at Buffalo Exchange for $20 (the same cut is retailing in different washes for $160 right now!!). I'm telling you this because:

a) As you have probably already noticed, I'm not the type of person who hides the fact that they got something on sale.

b) I'm honestly more proud of the fact that I got these second-hand jeans for such a steal rather than the fact that I now have a pair of [what used to be] expensive jeans.

c) Today, I told my boyfriend about the amazing deal I got and he reminded me that this was about the tenth time I had told him...I need a new audience.

Off to do the statistics homework I have procrastinated on and get some sleep before my 6am (!) work shift tomorrow. I think I'll be needing a triple shot espresso tomorrow morning...

Feminine Details

Monday, August 29, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie "Twisted Ascot Tee" (here)
Lace Skirt: Free People (here)
Straw Fedora: University Student Store
Bow Handbag: Anthropologie
Earrings: Frou Frou (local boutique)
Sandals: Target

Yet another weekend has come and gone, and I can't believe I only have 2 weeks left of summer! These pictures were taken on one of those perfect summer evenings that make you want summer to last forever (despite all the complaining I have done about it). Although, I must note that the gorgeous park that we took these photos at was ruined by a pageant mother taking head shots of her poor little girl who looked like she had stepped right out of Toddlers & Tiaras...

Anyways, I love this outfit because I got the chance to wear my favorite (and only) fedora, which I unconsciously built my entire outfit around. Believe it or not, I got this puppy on sale in the very small and usually tacky clothing section of my student store. Before that, I had been searching for months for the perfect straw fedora that would actually fit my abnormally wide head. Lucky for me, these hats went on sale at the end of the year and I decided to try one on for fun after wandering into the store to pick up some hi-chews and lemonade. To my surprise, it actually looked good...fit on my head...and fit my budget!

I decided to pair my fedora with some feminine details to balance out its boyish style. This bow purse is one of my favorites and despite its bold print, tends to work with most outfits. I also love my delicate lace  skirt which, until now, I have always had trouble styling. However, this mustard-beige top seems to compliment it well and I definitely plan to pair these two pieces together again. All in all, this outfit was great for a warm summer evening of wandering, shopping, and seeing Our Idiot Brother (which is hilarious...especially if you already love Paul Rudd).

Another note:
I visited my best friend at her college this weekend and she introduced me to one of my new favorite Starbucks drinks. Maybe some of you have already tried it...but if you haven't, its a great alternative to a Vanilla/Hazelnut Latte if you are craving something lighter (and cheaper).

Summer Stripes

What I'm Wearing:
Striped Top: Anthropologie "Striped Era Tee"
Jean Shorts: Life in Progress via Forever 21
Glasses: Chanel via LensCrafters
Wishbone Necklace: Etsy
Handbag: Vintage Dior (from great aunt)
Shoes: Sperry Top-Sider (here)

trying to recreate my Date Night photo? maybe...
I originally wore this outfit with jeans to my statistics class this morning. But then the sun came out and I remembered it was still summer...so I changed into shorts. Personally I liked it better with jeans, but when its about 90 degrees outside, a long sleeved shirt and jeans just won't cut it. In fact, I'm surprised that I made it through the whole day wearing this shirt/I don't know why I can't just accept that fact that its still summer.

If it were fall, however, this would be the perfect back to school shirt. I snagged it yesterday on a quick shopping trip with my mom. Its one of Anthro's new arrivals, and although I usually wait for things to go on sale...I'm very happy with my purchase :) The colors automatically make me think of autumn leaves and the baggy cut is perfect for a windy day. But, what I love most about this shirt is the interesting mismatched button detailing down the side and the uneven seam, with the front being shorter than the back. This shirt is a perfect example of how Anthropologie can turn a typical top into something interesting and unique.

Overall, I really liked how my outfit came together. Can't go wrong with classic stripes and Sperry's.

On another note, I just bought mustard colored felt to re-create this flower, as I had mentioned I would in a previous post. Wish me luck...(if you don't see the finished product within the next few days it means I failed miserably and/or managed to seriously injure myself with craft scissors and a hot glue gun).

Mixing Prints

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

kind of looks like I'm asking for money?
What I'm Wearing:
Striped Tank: Forever 21
Skirt: Love 21 via Forever 21
Necklace: Vintage
Gold Earrings: Anthropologie (in stores now)
Flats: Old Navy
Handbag: Vintage Dior (from great-aunt)

I honestly didn't do much at all today. It was one of those summer days where you wake up at noon and before you have really done anything...the day is almost over. However, I did manage to dress myself and go out with my mom...so I did actually wear clothes! woo!

The tank I'm wearing is always perfect to pair with a printed skirt. Because the stripes of the shirt aren't too bold, it doesn't distract from any colored prints and is a nice break from a simple white t-shirt (which is what I usually pair with most of my printed skirts). Its also one of those pieces of clothing that I seem to throw on whenever I have no idea what else to wear.

I decided to pair the tank with one of my favorite skirts (which unfortunately has been sitting unworn in my closet for quite a while) because lately, pretty much all I have been picking out of my closet either is red, yellow, or orange. In the past, I have been more drawn to neutral creams and tans, but with these warmer colors being super popular for fall, I've definitely jumped on the bank wagon.

In other news...I'll miss you Steve! I simply can't look at my Macbook or iPhone the same anymore...

ohhh so this is what I did today.

(pre) Labor Day Blues

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Striped Top: Nordstrom BP
White Jeans: It! Jeans via Nordstrom
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Necklace: Vintage
Shoes: Sperry Top-Sider (here)

I woke up this morning and realized that I better start getting good use out of my white jeans while its still socially acceptable to wear them. I'm definitely not the type of person that follows the "no white after Labor Day" rule. You will see me sporting my white jeans all year...along with my white sundress that I transition into fall with boots, a scarf, and my favorite denim jacket. The only possible exception? White shorts. But, it gets too cold in the winter to wear them anyways...

As for this post, I had quite a hard time figuring out a good place to take pictures because most of my house is white, and white pants against a white background=large white blob. When I came back to review the pictures I had taken, I wasn't too thrilled with the lighting. But, when I went to re-take some more photos..my favorite green necklace completely broke! :( Thats the last time I'll ever try to be a model and pull on my necklace for dramatic effect.

So, here's the three pictures I could salvage from the wreckage...Happy Tuesday!

Southern Charm

Monday, August 22, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Target (different color here)
Earrings: Anthropologie (here)
Belt: Nordstrom BP
Flats: Steven Madden via Loemann's
Leather Crossbody: Fossil (similar here)

This dress has a very Southern feel to me...so whenever I wear it I pretend to be a Southern belle who has table manners, can bake like a professional, and has an adorable Southern accent. Unfortunately, I can't eat without spilling on myself, can only consume large amounts of baked goods, and can't fake a Southern accent to save my life. However, the other day I did wear this to Lucille's Smokehouse (Southern) BBQ...so that counts right?

Another note...I snagged this wonderful dress from Target! It was one of those magical Target finds (like these clogs) that only appears when you aren't supposed to be looking for clothes.

Busy Bee

What I'm Wearing:
Draped Top: Anthropologie
Denim Shorts: See Thru Soul via Nordstrom BP (on sale here)
Clogs: Target (on sale in stores now!)
Earrings: The Icing (old)
Watch: DKNY (here)

We took these pictures in the gardens of a community library back home.
Its the perfect spot to relax on a Saturday and have a cute little picnic.

I was quite busy this weekend, and it was a nice change from my usual weekends of doing pretty much nothing other than working, studying, and avoiding the urge to impulsively online shop. In the summertime it can be nice to do nothing, but my personality really feeds off having a schedule and keeping busy. When I'm busy, I feel productive. And when I'm productive...I'm happy! Thats one of the reasons these past few days have been so great.

I wore this outfit all day Saturday (well I changed out of my heels half way through...I'm not a machine!) and it wound up being a good outfit for both day and night. Although I initially did not like this draped top when I tried it on, it eventually grew on me after seeing so many people in my store try it on and look great in it. The draping is unique and surprisingly flattering, and I feel like it turns a normal linen top into a statement piece.

I'm athletic.

That One Pair

Saturday, August 20, 2011

What I'm Wearing:
Peasant Top: Nordstrom BP
Denim Shorts: Joe's Jeans via Anthropologie
Belt: Target
Sandals: Forever 21
Earrings: Claire's (super old)
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Handbag: B. Makowsky

you know me...just casually chilling on the wall...
We all have that one pair. Whether it be a pair of jeans, shoes, sunglasses, or whatever, theres always that one item that you have had forever and yet still love just as much as when you first bought it. For me, its these earrings. I honestly can't remember exactly when I bought them but I'm pretty sure I was in my awkward preteen years and they had been one of the many purchases I made at Claire's at the time.

Did you guys ever have that Claire's obsession? From the ages 8-13, it was my one stop shop. I could get my ears pierced, buy about 20 pairs of earrings (c'mon we all did it. those earring sets where you only liked 3/20 pairs were amazing and a total investment), and could pick up completely useless gift boxes and keychains all in one visit. Well anyways, out of all the money I wasted away in that tiny little purple and white store, I somehow came away with these wonderful earrings that I honestly wear way too much. They pretty much match with anything—not really...but I wear them anyways—and can instantly dress up an outfit. Plus, for the past year or so I've been loving to add pops of turquoise into simple outfits to make them more dynamic.

All in all, this outfit was perfect for a nice summer day of catching up with friends and doing some window shopping. By window shopping I mean going into Forever 21, trying on a bunch of things, and then convincing myself that I didn't need any of it...which I don't.

this is me gracefully running...and thanking my photog :)

fall wishlist

Friday, August 19, 2011

The other day this top appeared on Anthropologie's website...and I fell in love (sorry boyfriend...). Heres two outfits I styled with it. Obviously there are much more affordable versions of the jeans and cardigans I listed, but I was feeling lazy so I just stuck to Anthro picks to give a general idea of two looks I might create with this top. Plus I'm also obsessing over these adorable nude leather flats.

so...my birthday is next month?
